Animal Rights
In this module you are going to:
- discuss whether animals have rights or not.
- read an article entitled "scientists told to stop wasting animal lives" and do comprehension activities
- learn vocabulary relevant to animal rights
- study passive voice
- write a summary of a text about Animals on Factory Farms
- watch a video and discuss the idea of de-extinction
- make a mindmap with five reasons why keeping animals in captivity is wrong.
- choose an endangered species to make a donation for and explain the reasons of your choice.
- take part in a debate about animal-testing experiments.
- write an essay for the school magazine to express your opinion about whether animal-testing experiments are ethical or not.
Watch the following presentation to see how active voice becomes passive voice.
Match the words below in the text (1-8) with their definitions (a-h).
Make a mindmap with any of the words in ex. 6. Follow the sample mindmap as a model.
Brainstorm five reasons why it is wrong to keep animals in captivity. Then make a mindmap and upload it on the assignments' section.
You and your classmates have the chance to make a donation for an animal that belongs to a species under extinction.
Decide on the animal its survival you wish to sponsor for, and then work in pairs to make a 4-5 google slides presentation about it.
You are going to take part in a debate about animal-testing experiments. In pairs, prepare arguments for both the researchers and the campaigners against those experiments.
You may search in the following web pages for extra ideas, but make sure you use your own ideas, too.
You can create a mind map to help you organise your ideas.
Then submit it on the assignments' section.
You have had a class discussion about animal-testing experiments to develop new medicines and cosmetics. Some people argue that these experiments are not ethical while others are in favour of them as long as they benefit humanity.
Write an essay (120-150 words) for the school magazine to express your opinion.
Over here you may submit the final draft of your essay about animal-testing experiments.
Here you can write your essay as an online text on whether using animals in experiments is ethical or not.
