APOKRIES

  Στην Ελληνική  Ορθόδοξη  Χριστιανική εκκλησία οι Απόκριες είναι οι τρεις εβδομάδες πριν την ΚΑΘΑΡΗ ΔΕΥΤΕΡΑ.Στα αρχαία χρόνια την περίοδο αυτή γιόρταζαν τα Μεγάλα Διονύσια που ήταν αφιερωμένα στον μυθικό θεό Διόνυσο,θεό του κρασιού και του γλεντιού.Αυτές οι 3 εβδομάδες χαρακτηρίζονται από την διάσημη λέξη KAΡΝΑΒΑΛΙ.

    Αυτό σημαίνει ότι στην διάρκεια αυτών των εβδομάδων μπορούμε να καταναλώσουμε όσο κρέας θέλουμε έχοντας ως κορύφωση την ημέρα της ΤΣΙΚΝΟΠΕΜΠΤΗΣ.Μεγάλες ποσότητες ψητού κρέατος προσφέρονται σε όλους και η μυρωδιά της τσίκνας - καμμένου λίπους είναι παντού.

  APOKRIES

 In Greek Orthodox Christian Church ''Apokries'' are celebrations which take place the three weeks before what we call in Greece ''ΚΑΘΑΡΗ ΔΕΥΤΕΡΑ'' or ''PURE MONDAY''. In ancient times, people living in Athens, celebrated similar festivities the so called ''Μεγάλα Διονύσια'' honouring the god Dionisus, god of wine and fun.

These three weeks are characterised by the word ''ΚΑΡΝΑΒΑΛΙ''. Τhat means that during these weeks we can consume as much meat as we like .......having as the highlight the day of ''ΤΣΙΚΝΟΠΕΜΠΤΗ''. Ιn english we can call it as ''Smoky Thursday'' or even ''Grilled Day'' because large amounts of grilled or roasted meat are offered to everybody and the smell of burning meat fat is EVERYWHERE!!!
