Unit 1: Our Multicultural Class

This unit is about the world around us. We read about people from different countries and listen to students working on their different projects. We talk about our daily routine and what is happening especially today. We write a country report.

Language Skills: the present tenses, adverbs of frequency, compound words, derivatives

Vocabulary: landforms, school subjects, countries and nationalities

Strategies: skimming for general information, listening for key words, recognising paragraph topic

Unit 2: Going Shopping

This unit is about shopping!! Why do we shop, where do we shop, what do we shop for. We talk about supermarkets and malls, we practise shopping in English, we remember words for food and clothes. We write a recipe and the script for a cooking show!

Language skills: countable/uncountable nouns, quantifiers, articles, order of adjectives

Vocabulary: food, clothes, materials, colours and shades, shops and stores

Strategies: reading for details, reading a receipt, shopping dialogue

Unit 3: Imaginary Creatures

This unit is about monsters and fairy tales! We tell stories, we read about mythical creatures, we get scared! We listen to a ghost story and learn how to describe personality and appearance. We write our own ghost story!

Language skills: adjectives, adverbs, comparisons

Vocabulary skills: personality and appearance, extreme adjectives, synonyms/antonyms

Strategies: finding missing sentences, listening for gist, telling a story with historic present

Unit 4: The History of the Aeroplane

This unit is about technolgy, inventions and flying! We learn all about aeroplanes and the power of flight. We meet great inventors and we learn about the forces of flight and different types of aircraft. We write about a flight incident!

Language skills: the past tenses, time lnking words

Vocabulary skills: parts of a plane, being on a plane, inventions, types of aircraft

Strategies: listening to fill in gaps, writing a biography, writing a story in the past

Unit 5: Travelling Through Time

This unit is about habits and customs in the past, what people used to do and how different things were. It is also about means of transport now and then and how the rules change in different times. We take an interview and write a blog post!

Language skills: "used to", the imperative, asking for directions

Vocabulary skills: old clothes and food, means of transport, rules 

Strategies: reading a diary, summarizing, taking an interview, writing an article

Unit 6: Me and my Future Job

This unit is about jobs and careers! We talk about skills, personality traits and qualifications. We try to find the best job for our characteristics. We learn how to talk about the future and set goals. We learn how to describe different jobs and what they need to do. We give a job interview and write about our future goals!

Language skills: future forms, possibility and ability

Vocabulary skills: occupations, skills and personality characteristics

Strategies: multiple matching, listening to match with speaker, job interview, writing a personal statement
